MegaTrafficSim

Welcome to MegaTrafficSim, an agent-based road traffic flow simulator that supports the study of how the following:

  • Road attributes (length, lane number, speed limit)
  • Traffic signal timing (fixed / coordinated / synchronized)
  • Vehicle attributes and driving preference (vehicle length, velocity, acceleration / deceleration and gap preference)

are correlated to road traffic flow performance. It can be used to locate congestion causes and do what-if test to assist traffic modeling and design.

With user defined roads, intersection, signal timing, network and vehicle attributes, MegaTrafficSim simulates road traffic, exports vehicle position and velocity, lane change, turning,  and traffic signal status.

MegaTrafficSim is powerful yet easy to use. Utilities for traffic modeling on Google map and data mining / reporting tools are available as well.

MegatrafficSim only needs a personal computer to work, it can finish the simulation of thousands of vehicles within couple minutes.

Below are some simulation records. They are like data you would capture using cameras, sensors, and induction loops in real world.

Tutorial chapter 3 Simulation Output tells you how to understand the output.

Simple, isn’t it? Yet you have millions of records like this. Every second, every move of every vehicle is reported to you in the centimetre level. Just imagine that you have engaged every vehicle and traffic signal in the city, and every one of them is telling you its story.

MegaTrafficSim needs a Windows (XP, Vista, 7 or 8) and .Net Framework 3.5 or above to run.

If you are running a Chrome instead of IE, your browser may give you a security warning when you download the MegaTrafficSim Package because there is an executable in the zip file.

MegaTrafficSim even does not write anything to your hard drive. It sends result to your screen. With the “>” in the command, your operating system “redirects” the screen output to a file.

MegaTrafficSim does not need a internet connection to work, and does not create any entry in Windows registry.
